Installation Notes;

When updating an existing cutter (with an MSI or Product update) it sometimes becomes necessary to manually remove previous settings files. This is because a new/updated cutter driver may not be compatible with previous settings files created with an existing driver. To remove previous settings, make sure ONYX Cut-Server and RIP-Queue are closed and delete the following:

  • ONYX Folder/Settings/CutMarkData – delete related XML files
  • ONYX Folder/Settings/Cutters – Delete the folder for the specific cutter you are updating
  • ONYX Folder/Cutter/ – Delete the folder for the specific cutter you are updating

General information on Graphtec FC9000 and CE7000 workflows (full pages are in our internal confluence server)

  • Using the Standard Barcode
    • When pointing to the initial registration mark, move the cut tool to the lower left registration mark. The mark directly left of the barcode.
  • Using the Roll Server Barcode (Default)
    • If reading the barcode, either orientation can be used. If doing a direct cut (TCP/IP, USB) place the printed file so that the “front” barcode (appended “-F” on name) is towards the operator.
      • Note: One .XPF file can be used for both orientations.
    • When pointing to the initial registration mark, move the cut tool to the lower right registration mark. The mark just above of the barcode.
    • When pointing to the start mark, move the cut tool approximately 0.25″ below the start mark.
  • Continuous Cut Workflow (a.k.a. Data Link Server, Roll Server)
    • Print jobs sequentially, using either left or right alignment, using the Roll Server barcode.
    • Place printed jobs on cutter, so that either the front or rear barcode is stacked in the same horizontal position.

Barcode Not Reading

Registration Marks Not Reading

  1. Make sure the printed cut sheet is in correct reading orientation. The Barcode with the “-F” should be towards the operator, for the standard barcode, the barcode should be on the right side, with the start mark facing towards the operator.
  2. Use darker registration marks, to do so turn the “Cutter Mark Darkness” up in the options tab of the placement strategy settings. (If using contone printer)
  3. Make sure the cutter head is in the appropriate position before reading barcode. Tool should be about 0.25″ below the start mark (towards the operator). Or cutting tool is in inside of starting (Bottom Right) registration mark.
  4. Try using thicker marks in the “Cutter Options” section of ONYX.
  5. Move cutter to a well illuminated area.
Ends of job not cutting
  1. Adjust rollers to outermost position of printed image.
  2. Add print margin to end of job where cropping occurs, shown in Cut Mark Options above.
“Out of Range” Error when reading registration marks
  1. Add print margin in the Y direction before and after the printed job nest.
    • Cutter needs enough margin for rollers and cut head to read the marks.
“Cut After Job” Option Not Available in Cut-Server
  1. The newest version of the Cut-Head on the FC9000 does not support this functionality. This feature must be turned on in the physical cutters settings.
“Matching Cut Data Not Found” Error when doing a roll server cut.
  1. Ensure corresponding .xml cut file is located in the <ONYX_INSTALL>/cutter/Graphtec FC9000 Cutter folder.
Cut is upside down
  1. Make sure the front barcode is facing the operator when doing a direct TCPIP or USB cut.
    • Front barcode will have the <CutID>-F to the left of the barcode, NOT a <CutID>-R for the rear.
“The Data Link Server is Not Running” After reading barcode
  1. Restart Cut-Server with the “Enable Roll Server” checkbox checked.
    • If the connection to the cutter is lost, the server can run into issues reconnecting.
  2. Turn cutter on before attempting to start Roll Server within Cut-Server.
  3. Ensure the correct port is selected, and valid connection is secured, in the cutter options.
  4. Make sure the correct “Destination” is set in the FC9000 cutter menus.
    • PAUSE/MENU > LINK > DESTINATION
Roll server will not read next job without user assistance
  1. Make sure there is not too much distance between jobs. Usually anything > 1.5″ will have issues sequentially reading.
    • Any spacing issues will usually come from the printer.
Barcode and Start marks are not being printed
  1. When printing out of Rip-Queue, the marks will only be added if the printed image is at least as large as the marks. Image may be expanded or buffer can be added to reach minimum size for each barcode mark. Minimum image sizes are as follows:
    • Standard – 4″ vertically, 2″ Horizontally.
    • Roll Server – 7.5″ horizontally. Will expand image to this width.
Barcode does not look correct out of Layout Tool
  1. If image is smaller than the barcode, the image may need to be shifted to the right to allow space for the correct barcode placement.
    • Standard: Bottom right mark should be >4″ away from left edge
    • Roll Server: Bottom right mark should be >8″ away from left edge
Roll Server option is not available in Layout Tool
  1. Roll server is only an option in Cut Server
    • Layout Tool does work with a Queue like Roll Server (DataLink Server) needs to operate.
Cutter Device Issues
  1. The issue can be looked up in section 16.1, troubleshooting tips, of the user manual. Which will give a cause/solution of the issue based on the error message displayed on the screen.

Notes:

FC8600
  • Place knife inside the registration mark, towards the inside corner of the registration marks, when trying to read the marks with the machine.
  • Factory Reset: Hold “up” arrow while device is turning on, proceed to set all default settings. Then manually reset device.
  • With the side barcode patch in 19.0.3. The add bottom offset feature in the placement strategies can cause the bottom marks to disappear when using the STANDARD BARCODE. Instead use the Y axis image and mark margins inside the cutter options menu.
    • This issue will be resolved in the next product release.
